Tissington Kindergarten is situated in the former Village School House, built in 1837 by Miss Frances FitzHerbert. It stands in extensive and beautiful rural surroundings at the centre of the Tissington Estate. The children are exceptionally fortunate to have such a unique environment and benefit enormously from nature walks to the Arboretum and village where they can explore and climb in 15 acres of trees and shrubs.

The light and airy classrooms are spread throughout the building. We also have the use of the Village Hall; this provides a large area for the children to participate in Music and Movement classes. The Kindergarten has a large playground, providing plenty of opportunity for outdoor play. The children have the use of a variety of scooters, tricycles and wheelbarrows, etc. Adjacent to the playground is a garden with a wooden pirate ship, a wendy houseand a separate area where the children are able to grow vegetables and flowers. The Kindergarten has several guinea pigs and rabbits that the children are encouraged to handle and feed on a regular basis.

The children have many visits from 'People who help us' e.g. Blacksmiths, Doctors, Police Officers, Road Safety Officers and Airline Pilots to name a few! Through these experiences, we aim to enrich the children's knowledge and understanding of the world they live in.

Great emphasis is placed on creativity and self expression. Children are encouraged to display kindness and respect to one another and thus lay the foundations of good manners. We aim to nurture each child's individual character so that they all develop their own, very different, personalities.

The children are grouped into classrooms according to age -- 'Owls', 'Swallows' and 'Robins'
