Owls Having Fun

When the children move into the Owls they further their development under the Early Learning Goals and are encouraged to be more independent in all areas of the classroom.

The children are taught to their own ability working on numbers within 1-10 and the sounds of the alphabet.

Each child has a sound and number book and will spend time in the morning working on a one to one basis with their teacher. the activity will be introduced practically then consolidated in their book.  This  helps the child to develop their pencil control an ability to work independently.

When the child is confident with their sounds and able to build up three letter phonetic words i.e. c-a-t they will be given a reading book.  They will read every day with their teacher and may also take it home.

The Owls work on topics and like the Swallows this is introduced through various activities including art and science.

The group joins together for carpet time when we work on practical number and sound activities and our topic is introduced.

The classroom is set up everyday with free play activities as well as practical number and sound games.  The children are encouraged to move freely around the room completing one acclivity before moving onto the next.

Creative Sessions

In each class the creative work focuses on learning new skills and techniques.  These may include cutting, model making, collage, painting etc all using a variety of resources. As these skills develop the children start to use their imagination more and work with greater independence.

Home Area

All three classes have their own home area, which changes with each topic. This provides an area for the children to work and play together through role play and dressing up.

Music and Movement

Twice a week the Owls and Swallows join together at the village hall for a music and movement session.  the children join in with singing, dancing, circle games and playing simple percussion instruments.

At christmas we perform a traditional nativity play, and in the summer we hold concerts for the parents to watch.

Now which one is number 5?
This goes here I think.
Great fun.

I hope mine won't run away!

This is quite difficult.
Look at all those pumpkin seeds.
Working very hard.
This is a mucky job!
Ready for the compost bin.
Look what I found in the farm.
Someone's really muddled this up!
..two..
Pegs on trees.
Counting and matching.
He keeps moving!
Peekaboo
This is how we make jelly.
Measuring the water.
Adding it to the jelly.
And the finished result.
What's this doing in here?
