Swallows Having Fun

When the children move up into the Swallows class from the Robins the curriculum and activities are all based around the six areas of the Early Learning Goals. The main emphasis is learning through practical experiences.  All our sound and number is introduced practically and we use Jolly Phonics actions to introduce initial sounds. this allows all of the children to  participate building up confidence and recognition of letters.

Our carpet times and creative activities all follow a termly topic, such as 'Farms' or 'Water'. This provides a basis for discussions, exploration of concepts and art work.

When the child is ready, an individual book is introduced to reinforce pencil control, colouring , number and sound recognition. this is done on a one-to-one basis with the teacher.

Activities are set up during free  play which help develop the child's fine or gross motor skills and concentration levels.  This will also develop colour recognition, counting and matching skills.

Balancing in the playground
Hello!
This one goes here.
Two eyes a nose and a mouth.
Concentrating hard.
This is quite fiddly work!
Mixing up the fruit...
...to make a delicious fruit salad.
My turn now.
And now we're making biscuits.
Butter goes in first. Then it needs a good mix.
Cutting out gingerbread men. Rolling dough isn't as easy as it looks!
Are you watching carefully? And the here's the finished result!

I think I'll put you in here.
